About Graham Scanlon, M.D.

Dr. Scanlon is a highly skilled psychiatrist and neuroscientist, and the founder of La Jolla Psychiatric Rejuvenation. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as by the American Board of Preventive Medicine/Addiction Medicine.

He has also been granted Fellow status for both the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA) and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (FASAM). His passion lies in caring for people through their most challenging of times. His model is to learn each person’s unique story and create an individualized treatment plan to catalyze healthy change and mobilize individuals toward clinical remission and optimal quality of life.

Dr. Scanlon brings both scientific knowledge and deep clinical wisdom to every patient interaction. He stays current with the latest advancements in medicine and is constantly refining his clinical tools.

Dr. Scanlon began his academic journey with a double major in molecular biology and psychology. This allowed him to build a strong foundation in the sciences that would shape his career in psychiatry and neuroscience.

During medical school, Dr. Scanlon was at the top of his class with Honors in psychiatry, pain management, neurosurgery, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, introduction to physical exam techniques, and more.

In his final year, he created a pain management sub-internship, which remains a popular rotation at UCSD to this day.

Dr. Scanlon was President of UCSD's American Medical Student Association (AMSA) chapter. He created a program called "Meet the Residents," bringing together residents and medical students for mentorship.

Dr. Scanlon received an excellence in teaching award from UCLA School of Medicine. He gained proficiency in UCLA's mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and addiction medicine specialty clinics.

Dr. Scanlon has for over a decade provided inpatient and emergency psychiatric care for the underserved at the San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital, as well as outpatient care with the Mental Health Systems (MHS) program.

Published Research

Dr. Scanlon has published medical research in major depression, anxiety, headache pain, spine-mediated pain, neuropathic pain, neuroimaging, and the interaction between medical and psychiatric conditions.

As 1st author on these peer-reviewed papers, he has been able to utilize scientific writing skills to help advance knowledge in these fields. Dr. Scanlon has also presented at numerous annual medical conferences. He received the American Pain Society research award and the coveted American Headache Society research award among others.
